Following a forgettable Premier League defeat to Spurs over the weekend, Manchester United have accelerated plans to land a long-term target.
Antonee Robinson surfaced as a potential defensive signing in the summer, but the club instead prioritised the return of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Sources close to the Theatre of Red stated that medical staff had reported positively for the pair – negating the immediate need for reinforcements.
However, following unforeseen issues and continued unavailability, United chiefs are keen to solidify a deal for the Fulham star in January.
The American international has routinely impressed with his performances, leading to interest at home and abroad, with Arne Slot an admirer in Liverpool.
Reports from Danny Rust and Dean Jones confirm plans to construct a package to ‘thwart’ Slot and big-spending Chelsea.
What do we know?
Per an exclusive in GIVEMESPORT, ‘Manchester United are beginning to accelerate plans to sign a new left-back and have had Robinson on their list of potential recruits for a prolonged period.’
However, the 27-year-old has four years remaining on his London deal, with the Cottagers not overly keen on the prospect of a sale.
We can confirm the club’s interest in the player – with the full-back believed to be a popular choice in Erik ten Hag’s dressing room.
The report from GMS states Fulham would seek a fee in the region of £40 million – we can neither confirm nor deny that.
Given the necessity for compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, outgoings would most certainly be required to finance a package of that nature.
Additionally, the club has considered a move for Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth and Girona star Miguel Gutierrez.
At 20 and 23 years old, both fit the transfer dynamic of Dan Ashworth and his best-in-class backroom team, with an enormous ceiling for additional growth.
Ultimately – as I have said many times – United should not be slotting square pegs into round holes – particularly when it is their own doing.
Last season’s Player of the Year, Diogo Dalot, is a natural right-sided defender, and although he is supplying coverage on the left, Ten Hag lacks a stable link with Marcus Rashford.
