The once-imperious Manchester United Football Club has become a weekly parody under the thumb of the Glazer family.
From dividends to failing infrastructure, any semblance of professionalism was robbed from the supporters many years ago.
However, with the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his desire for a best-in-class establishment, the 20-time English champions are beginning to turn a corner.
From a lack of dressing-room leaks to a modern business approach, the Old Trafford faithful have received a glimpse of hope.
Thursday supplied several talking points, each solidifying a positive approach for the season ahead.
A dutch delight
Following several weeks of speculation, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake were confirmed as assistant managers to Erik ten Hag.
The pair will commence work immediately, signing an agreement until June 2026.
“I am delighted that Rene and Ruud have agreed to join our project, adding a wealth of experience, knowledge and new energy to the staff,” Ten Hag told United’s official website.
“Now is a good time to refresh the coaching team as we look to build on the achievements of the past two years and push to the next level.”
Dan Ashworth has arrived as the club’s new sporting director, spearheading the Ineos vision ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
The former Newcastle chief is tasked with returning the first team to its rightful place at the peak of domestic and European competition.
Addressing the reshuffling of the backroom staff, he endorsed the arrivals ahead of a busy pre-season.
“It’s a particular pleasure to welcome Ruud back to the club where he enjoyed so much success as a player, and I know that he and Rene will help reinforce the winning mentality and high standards we are aiming for.”
Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy have left the club, while Steve McClaren and Darren Fletcher remain as primary staff for the first team.
The club says goodbye to Donny
Donny van de Beek has officially waved goodbye to Manchester, sealing a move to La Liga outfit Girona on a permanent transfer.
The 27-year-old has endured a frustrating time in England since his highly-anticipated arrival in 2020.
A combination of injuries, underwhelming performances and failed loan spells have frustrated the player, with hopes he can rekindle his form in Spain.
He joins Blanquivermells following their remarkable third-placed domestic finish, knowing he will taste Champions League football in his new home.
Taking to Instagram, addressed the Old Trafford faithful: “Dear Manchester United family, today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end.
“I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years. From the moment we arrived at Manchester United, we felt extremely welcome and we are grateful for that.
“Thank you to everyone at the club for making us feel at home. A special thanks to all the fans that made these years unforgettable.
“Besides the football, the birth of our two children here ensures that Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts.
“Good luck to everybody, we’ll meet again.”
Edging closer to another Dutch arrival
Joshua Zirkzee is a priority target for United, with negotiations taking place over the past fortnight.
Despite interest from several clubs, including AC Milan, the allure of Old Trafford and the Premier League proved too difficult to resist.
Per David Ornstein, the Dutcham will fly to the UK this evening with a medical scheduled for Friday.
Barring travesty, the 23-year-old will join Ten Hag as a first summer signing in a deal worth €42.5 Million spread over three years.
The manner in which this business has been conducted is refreshing and offers a sense of fulfilment for the spectator.
Ratcliffe’s gaze is firmly set upon the betterment of the club, with ample expectation for further announcements in the coming weeks.
How do you feel about today’s news and how the club is conducting its business?
