The potential transfer of Adrien Rabiot to Manchester United has become a perennial conversation.
A charismatic Frenchman who has cultivated an impressive portfolio since Carlo Ancelotti handed him a senior debut in 2012 for Paris Saint Germain.
From a club career that has returned 22 pieces of silverware to a Nations League success with his beloved France, there is little he has not experienced.
Now, at 29, the Saint-Maurice midfielder has spent five seasons with Juventus in Serie A, amassing over 200 appearances for the club.
Following downtime after his Euro 2024 campaign, Rabiot has opted to decline a contract extension in Italy, instead opening the door for discussions with many interested suitors – including United.
Does a deal make sense?
Football Italia has highlighted reports of the player’s desire for a new challenge, citing a lust for a €9 Million annual pay packet.
That may prove difficult to obtain under the new hierarchy in the North West, with players like Lisandro Martinez earning a little over £6M per annum.
The Old Trafford outfit has developed an array of talented superstars through its academy, with Kobbie Mainoo the undeniable gem.
When targeting a midfield player to complement the Englishman’s arsenal, does Rabiot tick the required boxes?
He is a tall, imposing midfielder with a notable ability to carry the ball through impressive technique and experienced limbs.
The Premier League outfit desires a holding player to shield the defence and allow Kobbie and Bruno Fernandes to dictate matters further up the field.
This French international is approaching his final European chapter.
He is keen to taste an alternative environment and does not harbour a motive to warm the bench.
With a move for his compatriot Leny Yoro all but completed, speculation has again turned to PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
The Uruguayan has attracted interest from the 20-time English champions throughout the window, with his Ligue 1 side open to a deal.
A combative destroyer who excels in defensive duties and most definitely fits the profile for the Ineos rebuild.
Per Florian Plettenberg, Ugarte remains high on the club’s wishlist, with the player keen on a move to England.
When considering the offerings of both players towards Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s dream, the South American may present the surer option.
