Manchester United have completed the signing of Slovenian star Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig on a five-year deal, finalising a trio of formidable attacking recruits.
The hitman becomes the fourth summer arrival for Ruben Amorim, after the captures of Diego Leon, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo, in a further show of intent from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his best-in-class Ineos hierarchy.
Following an underwhelming campaign that saw a bewilderingly low return of goals, the former Sporting supremo has reinvented his final third ahead of a crucial Premier League season.
Notably, Sesko rejected the allure of a more lucrative salary and Champions League football with Newcastle, and instead prioritised the prospect of spearheading a Manchester revolution with the 20-time champions of English football.
Benjamin Sesko represents further evidence of the undying Manchester United allure
Although some disgruntled supporters in the North East remain baffled by the former Salzburg star’s decision, a compelling project and the worldwide admiration of Manchester United provide an undeniable allure.
Furthermore, it is well-documented that Sesko has held aspirations of playing for the Reds, and the opportunity to line out at the Theatre of Dreams far outweighs the prospect of additional wages.
“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what really excites me is the future,” the striker stated at his unveiling.
“When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.
“From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions.
“I cannot wait to start learning from Ruben [Amorim] and connecting with my teammates to achieve the success that we all know we are capable of together.”
Sesko arrives off the back of an impressive individual campaign with 21 goals and six assists earned from 45 appearances in all competitions, including four from eight Champions League outings.
Although young and yet to sample the physicality of the world’s most competitive division, the Slovenia international stands six feet five inches tall, with notable pace, attacking prowess, and an undeniable ceiling for future growth.
Additionally, he stands to gain from the proven domestic experience of new teammates in Cunha and Mbeumo, with the prospect of Amad, Patrick Dorgu, and Bruno Fernandes supplying tantalising potential.
It remains unclear if he will earn enough integration time to feature against Arsenal in a vital league opener at Old Trafford on Sunday, 17 August. Still, the Stretford End has undoubtedly inherited another staggering talent.
Forget the price tag, embrace the reality of the situation with a lack of Premier League experience, and welcome this brilliant youngster with open arms.
