Manchester United have completed the signing of Carlos Baleba following a prolonged pursuit.
The Cameroon international joins from Brighton for £65 million, with an additional £5 million in performance-related add-ons, penning a five-year contract with an option for a sixth.
Baleba is currently in the final stages of a rehabilitation plan after collecting a minor ankle ligament injury during pre-season, and is expected to return to first-team duties in September.
Although this may generate a hint of hesitation amongst an already vulnerable fanbase, we’re advised that the player excelled in his medical with little to no long-term concerns observed.
He becomes the third senior midfielder to bolster Michael Carrick’s squad this summer, adding to the qualities already acquired with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
As previously reported at the Theatre of Red, this Ineos sporting department has tracked Baleba for well over a year and was not dismayed by Brighton’s unwillingness to deal in 2025.
Despite enduring a somewhat indifferent campaign with sporadic highs and lows, United remained committed to the 22-year-old and felt strongly about maintaining relations throughout.

“We are delighted to further strengthen our midfield with the addition of another established senior international with a proven track record of performing in the Premier League.

Since arriving in England from Lille in 2023, Baleba has earned a reputation as a dynamic central operator, with elite ball-carrying abilities and an engine to rival any Premier League opposition.
Notably, he set his sights on Old Trafford long ago, and despite attracting attention at home and abroad, he has only ever wanted the Reds.

Baleba will link up with his new teammates immediately and begin integrating into a life in Manchester, while becoming familiar with the facilities at Carrington.
Although a provisional date of early September has been scheduled for the first sighting of our latest enforcer, everybody at the Theatre of Red wishes Carlos the very best.
