Erik ten Hag supplies Manchester United FA Cup final team information
Ahead of Saturday’s Wembley showpiece, Manchester United supporters have received a triple squad boost before a potential FA Cup fairytale.
Speaking to the media before Thursday’s critical preparations, the Dutchman advised of the possible inclusion of Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof, and the outgoing Anthony Martial.
While it was not positive news throughout – with Harry Maguire ruled out – the manager seemed largely optimistic when pressed on his squad.
No joy for the former captain
United aim to rectify last season’s 2-1 defeat against Pep Guardiola’s side in London, with supporters hoping to end a traumatic season with some badly craved silverware.
Maguire was named in Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad for the European Championships, but Ten Hag confirmed the defender unfortunately failed in his battle to regain fitness in time for Saturday.
In response to questions regarding his lack of availability despite his England conclusions, the Dutchman told reporters. “It didn’t heal as we expected.”
Mount in a good place ahead of Friday’s final session
Old Trafford’s number seven has not featured for the Reds since he collected a minor injury several days after United’s 4-0 hammering against Crystal Palace.
Mount has endured a disappointing debut campaign with injuries, although he may still have an opportunity to sign off 2023/24 with a positive contribution.
When asked whether the playmaker was progressing well, alongside Lindelof and Martial, the manager offered positive news, “We have, tomorrow, final training and then we have final decisions. But, as I oversee it now, it looks good.”
Argentinian starlet honoured following iconic finish
Alejandro Garnacho has enjoyed a memorable campaign and earned a regular starting birth in the first team.
His performances have offered a glimpse of what is to come, with himself and the trio of Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Amad Diallo thrilling supporters with their youth and potential for the future.
Garnacho’s astonishing overhead finish against Everton in November has won United’s goal of the season, and the travelling support will hope the Argentine is at his best against Guardiola’s side on Saturday.
News from City
Ederson has been ruled out with a fractured eye socket, with German shot-stopper Stefan Ortega set to start the final.
There appears to be no further evidence of late squad issues for the Premier League champions, with the only concern landing on the Spaniard to select who will not make his starting XI.
With action set to get underway in the capital on Saturday at 15:30 BST, the world awaits the showpiece repeat, with the Red side hoping for a response from their underwhelming superstars.
