Having endured the collapse of a proposed takeover by the Friedkin Group (TFG), Everton remains resilient in their valuation for Jarrad Branthwaite.
The Toffees have informed Manchester United that they will not consider a transfer for the defender unless they receive a desired fee.
According to The Athletic, the Premier League side’s stance on the 22-year-old has not changed despite being dropped back into a precarious financial situation.
Recent mega-money deals for Harry Maguire, Josko Gvardiol and Wesley Fofana are viewed as an even barometer for their highly-rated Wigton player.
Overcoming a financial predicament
With the impending departure of Amadou Onana to Champions League-bound Aston Villa, a badly needed injection of funds will arrive in Merseyside.
Furthermore, the nine-time champions of England would prioritise a move for the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin before considering Branthwaite.
United had an initial opening offer of £35 Million plus £8M in add-ons declined, as was a second of £45M pus £5M.
Given the necessity for compliance with the Profit and Sustainability Rules, it remains unclear if a deal for the one-time PSV loanee can be manufactured.
A desire for further additions
Despite the struggles in landing the Englishman, the Reds have completed the coup of the Summer window by capturing Leny Yoro from Lille.
However, Erik ten Hag remains keen on adding a second defensive signing – with Matthijs de Ligt also highly regarded.
The Dutchman spoke with AD Sportwereld about the prospect of reuniting with his former player, remaining candid in his response.
“It remains to be seen whether Matthijs de Ligt will come,” the United manager said.
“I know him well – I wanted to sign him two years ago, but at that time, he was already very far along to join Bayern.
“Believe it or not, his name did not come from me in the process”.
