In what has come as little surprise to some, Manchester United have submitted an improved offer to Brentford to acquire the services of Bryan Mbeumo.
Following David Ornstein’s Thursday update, this third proposal is valued at a substantial £65 million, plus £5m in performance-related add-ons.
The Theatre of Red has remained calm about the prolonged negotiations throughout the summer, as chief editor Shaun Connolly regularly highlighted the club’s intention to add Mbeumo to their plans for the States.
With Brentford suffering a plethora of departures throughout the off-season, the Londoners remained intent on prolonging discussions to maximise their public standing while regularly increasing their desired fee.
However, the 25-year-old is entering the final year of his deal, and despite the club retaining the option to extend it by a further 12 months, he has long desired a move to Manchester and has requested that the bid be accepted.
Bryan Mbeumo has his heart set on Manchester United
Despite the low standing of Ruben Amorim’s side following a 15th-place Premier League finish, Mbeumo set his stall early about his intentions to join Matheus Cunha in a rejuvenated United attacking line.
A decision to refuse an advance from former chief Thomas Frank to join his Tottenham ranks further emphasised the Cameroon international’s will.
The Bees had initially declined an offer of £45 million plus £10m in add-ons, before rejecting a second approach of £55m plus £7.5m in achievable conditions.
Speaking exclusively about the negotiations via the channel’s official podcast in early June, Shaun highlighted confidence relayed from Manchester sources.
“I was advised this morning that Amorim is already preparing for next season with a view that he will have both Cunha and Mbeumo in his starting XI,” he stated.
“So, look at this practically: barring travesty, I don’t imagine a world where this deal is not concluded, and, to be totally honest, I have been calm about the lack of daily updates because of the time of year.”
Naturally, some will move to discredit the transfer and belittle the progress made during a crucial window. However, the potential partnership of Mbeumo and Cunha offers renewed hope to a disillusioned supporter base.
The Cameroon star is versatile, attack-minded, and thrives in transitioning forward rotations, with his 20-goal league tally a stirring reminder of his undeniable quality in England.
Although he favours prioritising his left foot, he is equally threatening with either, offering a unique brand of flair which can complement a thriving Amad on the right side of Amorim’s attacking line.
Make no mistake, the importance of this deal cannot be exaggerated, and the Stretford End is anticipating a majestic response from their underperforming idols.
