As we approach the final week of a dramatic Summer window, Manchester United officials are working tirelessly on several tasks that could see players arrive and depart from Old Trafford. At the forefront of their thinking is Belgium’s talented young goalkeeper, Senne Lammens.
Now, if you are reading this, the chances are that you have already digested the numerous articles provided by the Theatre of Red throughout the summer regarding the Royal Antwerp star and a desire to secure his services.
Per our exclusive report two days ago through editor-in-chief Shaun Connolly, United remain keen on striking a deal for the 23-year-old. That said, outgoings have always presented a key priority with three senior shotstoppers already on the books.
However, the nature of the youngsters’ valuation and remarkably high ceiling has presented a conundrum for the 20-time English champions.
As Shaun stated on yesterday’s episode of the Theatre of Red podcast with the Guardian’s Manchester correspondent, Jamie Jackson, there is a growing concern about missing out on the player at today’s market value and instead pursuing an inflated rate in the next couple of seasons.
Furthermore, his ability is no secret, and many European sides are eager to pip the Reds to his signature. That said, Lammens has long desired an opportunity to play at the Theatre of Dreams, and his remarkable confidence in his capabilities continues to point towards a partnership with Ruben Amorim.
Although mainstream individuals, such as Fabrizio Romano, are reporting this morning that United are in active talks for a deal for the Zottegem native, we can confidently say this has been the case for several weeks.
Why is Senne Lammens attracting such attention from Manchester United
First and foremost, this is not a brief tale of unrequited love; the player has dreamt of a move to M16 for some time and was overjoyed when presented with the possibility.
“The first time I heard, I thought, ‘Wow,’” Lammens stated in July. “Immediately, a world [renowned] team that follows you. That is special. Of course, I was also spoken to about it a lot, and when I made a save in training, it was United this, United that [from colleagues]… It’s only positive.
“Especially because it’s the best competition in the world, and my profile, my stature, and way of playing, is similar to English football. You have to physically hold your own there, and that suits me.”
It’s no secret that the goalkeeping position at Manchester United is amongst the most scrutinised in world football, and many star names – such as Andre Onana – have struggled to adapt to the expectations between the sticks.
Despite plying his trade in a less-competitive division, the former Club Brugge talent possesses the belief and confidence required to excel under those magical Old Trafford spotlights. This is one of the many attributes attracting an Ineos-led hierarchy. But his ability speaks for itself.
| League metrics 24-25 (Per 90 | Percentile) | Senne Lammens | Andre Onana |
| Save percentage | 81.3% | 98th Percentile | 68.9% | 50th Percentile |
| Saves | 4.34 | 94th Percentile | 2.59 | 17th Percentile |
| Crosses stopped % | 11.2% | 94th Percentile | 5.5% | 36th Percentile |
| Goals against | 1.10 | 80th Percentile | 1.29 | 62nd Percentile |
| Save % (Penalty kicks) | 66.7% | 80th Percentile | 25% | 67th Percentile |
| Touches | 41.59 | 74th Percentile | 40.32 | 68th Percentile |
| Clean sheet percentage | 20.7% | 42nd Percentile | 26.5% | 68th Percentile |
Disregarding the nature of competition and focusing solely on the output of a crucial position on the field, the above metrics reveal one of the most competent young goalkeepers in European football.
Ineos set their stall early in highlighting the ‘next big thing’ when pursuing transfer targets, and it doesn’t take a tactical whizz to understand why this is a player ticking the required boxes.
Should a deal come to fruition during the final days of this summer window, much will have relied on the status of the current senior options in Manchester.
It is plausible that a loan deal for Altay Bayindir could surface with interest in Turkey. However, we are not yet advised of progress here.
Another option would see Antwerp retain the player on a season-long loan while United attempt to create a vacancy in the squad for the 2026-27 campaign.
Either way, this is a deal that has more than a hint of a chance of completion. Although the usual aggregator websites generate the required clickbait from mainstream sources, thank you for taking the time to support a smaller outlet that strives to provide authentic information.
