Despite an abundance of external noise, plans are ongoing regarding the future of Manchester United in the transfer market.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has emphasised a need to factor in the progress of his backroom team after two to three summer windows to solidify a squad capable of achieving his desired goal.
Leading these ambitious plans is Sporting Director Dan Ashworth, who is keen to utilise an extensive market outside of Europe.
As previously reported by Marca, Franco Mastantuono is a name that comes highly recommended by United’s South American scouting network.
Having spent time with colleagues overseas, sources close to the Theatre of Red confirm this interest has intensified amidst the continued attention of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
A generational talent in demand
Old Trafford officials have marked the Argentinian as a potential star of the game, with an ability to scale to the top of European football.
Despite turning 17 in August, Mastantuono has already made 28 appearances for Primera Division giants River Plate.
Now in his fifth year at Los Millonarios, the Azul midfielder is a blend of technical ability, composure, and physicality with an undeniably South American touch.
Former Manchester City defender Martin Demichelis integrated the youngster into his first team at 16, shortly after signing his first professional deal in August 2023.
His progression has been remarkable, becoming the third-youngest debutant for the first team in January of this year.
Acting on the likelihood of a European approach, La Banda secured the competition’s largest release clause at €50 million for the teenager.
Such is his star in his native land – fans are labelling him as a player to lead the next generational crop of Argentinian talents towards further international glory.
With Intense competition for his signature arriving in Spain, Ashworth and Co will have their work cut out to acquire his signature.
That said, Leny Yoro was deemed impossible.
