It is 51 days since Manchester United reigned supreme at Wembley, launching an invigorated cry of support for Erik ten Hag.
There was a brief pause for breath for some, while others fought it out on the international stage, adding to their domestic silverware earned in May.
However, club football is returning today, with a welcoming Trondheim as the setting for United’s opening pre-season fixture against Rosenborg.
With a capacity of 21,405, Lerkendal Stadion is the venue for the encounter, with the Norwegian ground braced for a red frenzy.
Ten Hag has named a squad of 25 following the Carrington return of several first-team stars last week.
Those travelling can enjoy a range of pre-match festivities at Solsiden Arena through the official Manchester United Supporters Club Scandinavia, with an 11 AM (local time) start.
Who has made the trip
United have assembled a largely youthful cast to fulfil the duties in Lerkendal, with a list of notable omissions from the squad.
Harry Maguire continues his rehabilitation at Carrington, while Andre Onana, Victor Lindelof, Amad, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia adhere to individual schedules.
Jonny Evans, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Marcus Rashford, and the returning Hannibal retain senior responsibilities with 19 academy talents hoping to stake their claim for first-team action.
While there are many exciting names to focus on, keep a keen eye on Denzil Haroun winner Elyh Harrison, Harry Amass, Toby Collyer, Jack Fletcher and Jimmy-Murphy winner Ethan Wheatley.
Mount is another name supporters will be eager to see, having endured a disastrous debut campaign through injury. The 25-year-old can transform any side and will be keen to hit the ground running.
Head to Head
Today’s meeting will be the fourth exhibition against Troillongan – the first in 1977 at today’s venue, which United won 8-0.
The sides met again ten years later with a scoreline of 7-0 to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side and a 3-2 encounter in 1992.
Having enjoyed a dominant consecutive run of four domestic titles between 2015 and 2018, the one-time perennial Champions League name has slumped into obscurity.
The hosts have only two victories from their previous 11 games, occupying a disappointing eleventh position in Eliteserien.
With a capacity crowd expected for today’s encounter, supporters will hope for a morale-building outing ahead of the upcoming campaign.
A day of festivities
Events are ongoing throughout the day, with an opportunity to meet some club legends.
11:00: The supporters’ club starts its third day on Solsiden with a sales stand of United kits and other effects.
13:00-14:00: Bryan Robson and Denis Irwin for Q&A, with photo and signing opportunities in Dokken.
14:00-15:00 and 16:00: Live Quiz – prize is this year’s new United kit.
17:00: End of sales stand.
18:00: NB! The large screen at Solsiden/Dokken Rosenborg – Manchester United for those who do not have a ticket to buy something and eat and drink from the restaurants.
Ryan Jarvis from Hotel Football will perform in Dokken throughout the day.
