Following a frustrating injury to Rasmus Hojlund, Manchester United chiefs are reportedly considering a move for Ivan Toney.
The Brentford man has a year left on his deal, with ample suggestion he has opted to test himself in different waters.
A lack of suitors has presented an unwanted predicament for The Bees, with senior chiefs keen to cash on their hitman.
Erik ten Hag has already acquired Joshua Zirkzee, but a desire to bolster his squad with multiple options has piqued curiosity within the ranks.
A proven top-tier outlet
When available, Toney has been ever-present in Thomas Frank’s side.
A return of 36 goals and 11 assists in 85 Premier League appearances is a tremendous achievement for a forward playing outside the notably larger sides.
His skill set and traits fit the profile as an ideal replacement for Hojlund, with The Telegraph suggesting Ten Hag is considering the Northampton-born man.
While his talent is undeniable, supporters are apprehensive about the potential ramifications of his arrival when factoring in his troubled background.
A significant finding
The striker previously served an eight-month ban following an omission of guilt regarding 232 counts of breaking the FA’s rules on betting.
It emerged that the ban was reduced after the player was diagnosed with a gambling addiction.
Toney was found guilty of the offences from 2017 to 2021, with thirteen bets on his team to lose – although he was not playing in any of the fixtures.
While he has served his ban and since returned to action, a potential move is debated within the supporter base.
