A successful trip to Anfield sealed consecutive Premier League wins for Ruben Amorim. Still, the prospect of further scrutiny awaits if Manchester United fail to overcome Brighton on Saturday.
Unfortunately, this is the sad reality for the Portuguese coach, despite having won four of the previous six outings.
His United squad, currently occupying 9th place in the table, is deep in preparations for the weekend, knowing that a victory would likely propel them into a much-needed European conversation.
Among the many positives emerging are the three consecutive Old Trafford wins in recent weeks, with a partisan Manchester audience beginning to believe.
That said, Brighton will undoubtedly present a troublesome task, with Fabian Hurzeler retaining realistic aspirations of his own for European qualification.
Manchester United Team News
By and large, the vast majority of the squad is available to call upon for Saturday’s 5:30 PM fixture, with Noussair Mazraoui once more free for selection.
Midweek concerns about Harry Maguire and Mason Mount have not yet been resolved, but the general feeling at Carrington is positive about the duo.
“The squad is fine,” Amorim told the media. “We have some doubts, we had some issues in the week with Harry Maguire and Mason Mount. Knocks—nothing serious, and we will see tomorrow.”
One name definitely ruled out, though, is Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine continues to ramp up his efforts following a prolonged spell on the sidelines, but the former Sporting chief is feeling positive.
“Licha is out. He trained really well,” Ruben continued.
“He was on the next pitch, and I was watching. He’s training really well, the knee is looking well, but I don’t want to say a specific week [for his return] and then it depends on Licha, whether he wins the spot.”
Despite enjoying plenty of successful outings against the Seagulls following their return to the top flight in 2017, recent fixtures have been anything but joyous for the United faithful.
Worryingly, six of the previous seven Premier League meetings have gone in favour of Brighton, with the Reds’ sole victory coming on the final day of the 2023-24 campaign.
Amorim tasted a 3-1 Old Trafford humbling against Hurzeler in January and will be eager to atone for a forgettable period in his managerial journey.
At a time when the usual naysayers are chomping at the bit for another United drubbing, this side has an opportunity to add to the growing positivity in and around the Theatre of Dreams.
Remember, the Manchester United Foundation is appealing for clean adult and children’s coats to support local families in need throughout the winter, with donations accepted from 90 minutes before the first whistle.
Predicted Manchester United starting XI: (3-4-2-1): Lammens; Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw; Amad, Casemiro, Bruno, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Cunha; Sesko.
