No sooner had Manchester United confirmed a deal for Matheus Cunha than the club had set its sights on Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.
The 25-year-old attacker is entering the final year of his deal at the Gtech Community Stadium, with several Premier League sides eager to persuade the Cameroon international to join their ranks.
Per David Ornstein on Monday evening, Mbeumo has decided to join Ruben Amorim’s ambitious project, rejecting the advances of Champions League-bound Newcastle and Arsenal.
Having already secured the services of a perennial Premier League star in Cunha, the prospect of partnering this formidable duo at Old Trafford has set pulses racing across the North West.
Inevitably, business will move to the boardroom as United officials attempt to negotiate a Profit and Sustainability-suitable deal to satisfy both parties. However, as the Theatre of Red previously confirmed, confidence in solidifying a deal remains high in Manchester.
Say what you will about a catastrophic campaign, but the allure of the 20-time English champions remains a formidable draw for the game’s most exciting talents.
“We have spoken with individuals around Carrington for quite some time about the upcoming summer plans,” Shaun Connolly said on the Theatre of Red Podcast.
“I can categorically confirm that United remain keen to pursue Mbeumo, but they do face stiff opposition from Champions League-bound clubs.
“That said, United have held serious interest in the player since late February/early March – and he is aware of that – and just like Cunha, the carrot of a promising project is long sold.”
Bryan Mbeumo can revolutionise a weary Manchester United attack
With an underwhelming figure of 44 goals in 38 Premier League fixtures, an inability to find the net was the glaring issue throughout a forgettable season for the Reds.
Amorim, a lover of his intricate three-at-the-back philosophy, desires an attacking triumvirate to inspire flair, charisma, interchangeability and a ruthless desire for scoring.
In Mbeumo, the Portuguese tactician will inherit a man who has just hit 20 league goals and eight assists, adding to the 16 contributions (9G, 7A) he supplied in 27 appearances the previous season.
Noted for his strength, pace and eye for goal, the French-born hitman is the definition of a modern-day elite attacker who thrives in a fast-paced forward line with like-minded footballers.
It’s easy to get ahead of yourself when a talented player arrives at your club. That said, a staggering tally of 60 goals and 30 assists between Cunha and Mbeumo throughout the previous two seasons is about as proactive an attacking acquisition as the Old Trafford faithful could hope for.
| Bryan Mbeumo Premier League 24/25 | Per 90 minutes | Percentile |

| Goals – xG | +0.20 | 98 |
| xA – Expected assists | 0.25 | 92 |

| Goals per shot on target | 0.44 | 88 |

Like Cunha, the attacker’s desire to join Manchester United following a season resulting in a lack of continental competition speaks volumes about his character.
Amorim has repeatedly gestured that his dressing requires a combined vision and an elite culture to return this once-perennial giant to the head of the table. At a time when a wounded fanbase requires reassurance of this, they could ask for no more.

An amazing PL attacker with experience to.support the talented kids at Carrington. He should embrace this opportunity and improve on his previous performances.
If the club can acquire Cunha and Mbeumo in the space of a week after the season we’ve had, all you can do is laugh at every poor soul who’s crying about it. He is such a talented footballer, and as you said, he would be a great role model for the young lads.
