There’s a lot to be said about home comforts in the Premier League, and for Manchester United, the majesty of an evening under Old Trafford lights presents promise.
Not only does the allure of three points against West Ham offer momentum, but the opportunity to banish a torrid showing against a 10-man Everton is a welcome incentive.
The Reds will accommodate a struggling Hammers outfit on Thursday evening, knowing that a win could propel them into the top four heading into a congested Christmas schedule.
Ruben Amorim is calling for consistency, and with a valuable away victory at Selhurst Park, the prospect of European football offers an undeniable stimulus for an improving United squad.
That said, nothing is ever straightforward in England’s top tier, and recent history is very much on the side of the men from East London.

Having missed the previous two domestic outings through injury, the Stretford End will embrace the return of Matheus Cunha following a successful rehabilitation.
The South American is swiftly becoming a fan favourite in Manchester, alongside his Argentinian teammate, Lisandro Martinez, who is again in line to feature from the bench.
However, Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko remain sidelined due to separate setbacks, and Amorim has hinted at further concerns within his squad.
“We have two doubts for the game,” Ruben stated at his Carrington press conference. “I will not tell you today because we will change the way we are going to approach [the game].
“Let’s see if they can play tomorrow. The rest of the squad is good. Matheus is good. Harry Maguire and Sesko [are out].”
West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo will have to navigate the fixture without the services of Lucas Paqueta following his dismissal for dissent against Liverpool.
I’ve referenced the form guide between the sides above, and recent results have favoured the Londoners with four victories from the previous five meetings.
Amorim’s only test against the 2022-23 UEFA Conference League winners came at Old Trafford in May, as a Graham Potter-inspired side ran out comfortable 2-0 winners.
Still, the present day is a different story, and Espirito Santo is fighting a relegation battle, sitting outside the bottom three by way of goals scored ahead of Leeds.
With a partisan Manchester crowd providing its determined support, Bruno Fernandes and Co. must start strongly and maintain their second-half form against Palace to unsettle their visitors.
Now is the time for this group to stand up and deliver for their Portuguese leader.
Predicted Manchester United starting XI: (3-4-2-1): Lammens; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Shaw; Amad, Bruno, Casemiro, Dalot; Mbeumo, Mount; Cunha.
