With so much noise surrounding Ruben Amorim and the ongoing summer business of Manchester United, the status of several first-team squad members remains uncertain.
Household names like Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho are attempting to secure lucrative deals elsewhere. At the same time, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon await the North Western arrival of Bryan Mbeumo.
As is common knowledge, this is a football club famed for entrusting youth and empowering talent to prosper at the highest level.
In Amorim, Carrington has adopted another tactician who thrives in incorporating academy prospects into his senior setup, with Geovany Quenda one of many notable success stories.
The underage ranks at United are bursting with credible names patiently waiting for an opportunity to shine under Old Trafford lights, and many have already impressed their Portuguese leader.
Ahead of a critically important season for this one-time perennial juggernaut, who may feature alongside Bruno Fernandes and his squad of underperforming stars?
Jaydan Kamason | Manchester United full back
For those unaware, Mr Kamason is a very special young footballer.
Since making Manchester United history by becoming the first player to sign a professional deal from the Emerging Talent Programme, the former Stockport Vikings star shone through the underage ranks.
Notably, his performances in last season’s FA Youth Cup made many stand up, with a plethora of strength, pace, technical ability and an eye for goal.
Despite his lack of senior experience at 18, the full-back featured regularly in the first-team squad during periods of injuries for Amad and Diogo Dalot.
Furthermore, as we confirmed in June, his commitment to personal development has led to significant compliments from Amorim and his team, with the former Sporting chief said to be an avid admirer.
Jaydan has a ceiling for immense growth, and working alongside the wonderful Amad and the seasoned Dalot, there is a feeling that he can go very far in the North West.
Sekou Kone | Manchester United midfielder
Nineteen-year-old Sekou Kone announced himself on the global stage with multiple starring performances for his country, inevitably sealing a £1 million move from Guidars FC in August 2024.
Similar to Yaya Toure in terms of engine, tenacity, and stature, the Malian midfielder has featured in 14 underage outings across Premier League 2, the EFL Trophy, and the UEFA Youth League since his arrival.
With Amorim striving to cultivate a reliable squad of versatile athletes with a limited war chest, Kone’s impressive outings during senior sessions have led to widespread recognition from the coaching team.
Although inexperienced, the defensive-minded youngster presents a plausible option to accommodate a more veteran catalogue consisting of Manuel Ugarte and Casmeiro.
Bendito Mantato | Manchester United winger
At 17, Bendito Mantato has created quite the stir in Manchester.
Working in unison with Kamason, the technically gifted right winger supplied 14 goal contributions (10 goals, four assists) from 20 academy outings last season.
Given his playing style, ability, and wide-angled prowess, it will come as no surprise that many are making comparisons to Quenda at Sporting.
His goal against Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup typified his attacking qualities, beating men with ease while highlighting his exemplary understanding of the game.
Additionally, his versatility is a notable asset for Amorim, regularly featuring as a left-sided wing-back for the England underage ranks.
I’ve said it before, and I will repeat it: Manchester United has enjoyed many memorable wing relationships, like David Beckham and Gary Neville. In Mantato and Kamason, we may be looking at our next.
Jack Moorhouse | Manchester United midfielder
Our ball-carrying dynamo, Jack Moorhouse, enjoyed a very promising 2024-25 campaign, featuring in 10 Premier League 2 outings and earning valuable first-team sessions.
Like Kone, the 19-year-old has every opportunity to take advantage of Amorim’s requirements to bolster his central options, presenting an array of desirable traits and impressive physicality.
If you have not spent time monitoring the youth game, he is a throwback to a 90s attacking midfield player, with powerful carrying traits, strong line-bursting runs and an endless desire to progress the football.
What’s more, he too is versatile and can easily transition between a central holding role to a more high-lined 10 capacity.
As we are all aware, nothing is a guarantee in football, and the list of talented players who have failed to make the grade in the North West is long.
However, as a wise man once said: If you are good enough, you are old enough. We can’t wait to see how it plays out for the boys.
