Having failed in their attempts to land Nico Williams, Barcelona have targeted a sensational move for Marcus Rashford.
Working alongside Albert Fernandez, we can exclusively reveal that the Manchester United winger is one of several alternative names Hansi Flick is considering.
The Barca boss craves a pacey left winger to contribute goals, viewing the Wythenshawe man as an ideal option.
Flick is reportedly a long-term admirer of the Englishman, with French kingpins Paris Saint-Germain also monitoring the situation.
Nonetheless, it remains unclear whether Erik ten Hag would sanction a move for the forward despite the club’s precarious situation with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
“The reason Ruud is here is clear, he can help the strikers, but he is much more than this,” Ten Hag told the Athletic in July. “With Rashford, he can only prove himself.
“He is capable, he scores so many goals already at a relatively young age, he is capable of it. So I am confident, 100 per cent belief, he can do the same as few years ago.”
A defining season for Marcus Rashford
Regrettably, the Manchester native must endure customary harassment for any underwhelming team display, with a barrage of online negativity finding its way daily.
Few others in European football receive such open ridicule and torment, with ample suggestion that he is now considering a continental venture.
But, as Rashford approaches 27, he is entering the prime years of his career with much to offer in the Premier League.
Although the allure of Barcelona is undeniable, remaining in Manchester and helping guide the club towards domestic and European competition is a dream.
Undeniably, 2023-24 was a season to forget with a collection of erratic performances costing the attacker a place in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.
But his talent is unquestionable, and a return of 40 goal contributions the previous season is far from forgotten by Ten Hag.
Worryingly, sources close to the Theatre of Red have confirmed that Barcelona chief Flick has indeed proposed Rashford’s name during a Sports Management meeting with Deco.
It remains unclear whether the Catalans could even finance a deal for the United hitman, given his contractual status and the substantial transfer fee that would complement any offer.
Furthermore, any deal would require a significant wage reduction, which, surprisingly, our sources advise would not present an issue should the clubs come to an agreement.
