Following a fortnight of eager anticipation, Manchester United have completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Premier League star has penned a five-year deal with the option of an additional 12 months, sealing a £62.5 million move to enhance Ruben Amorim’s attacking arsenal.
“Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window,” beamed Director of Football Jason Wilcox.
“He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves, and, before that, in Spain and Germany.
“He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.”
With 33 goals and 15 assists from 92 appearances since arriving in England, the Brazil forward will provide an undeniably versatile option for an attack that registered a record-low 44 goals in 38 domestic outings last season.
Matheus Cunha seals his dream Manchester United move
At 26, Cunha represents a formidable coup and a tried-and-tested Premier League goalscorer who has caught the eye of multiple European sides.
But, despite advances from Champions League-bound sides like Newcastle, Old Trafford has always been a priority for the Joao Pessoa native.
“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player,” he stated in the club’s official release.
“Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team, and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt.
“I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality. I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my teammates and prepare for the season ahead.
“All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team and helping get this club back to the top.”
Although Wolves shared similar struggles to United throughout a forgettable campaign, Cunha enjoyed a brilliant individual showing of 17 goals and six assists in 36 appearances across league and cup competitions.
But his star has been evident for some time, and his growth across the division is abundantly clear.
The former RB Leipzig man earned 22 goal contributions (14G, 8A) in as many outings during the previous season. Matheus thrives on fashioning goal-scoring opportunities while linking midfield and attack through league-leading ball-carrying ability.
Although some choose to dictate his capabilities as nothing more than an advanced attacking 10, this flamboyant forward is equally capable of leading the line. Notably, he has done so in 59% of his total senior appearances.
As confirmed by the Theatre of Red in April, the hitman would relish any prospect of the opportunity, and his willingness to adapt across the front line is a keen asset.
| Matheus Cunha Premier League 24/25 | Per 90 minutes | Percentile |
| Shots total | 3.81 | 99 |

Cunha’s arrival signifies a clear intent to respond to a woeful 15th-placed league finish for Amorim and his disgruntled squad.
However, a wounded supporter base is eager for a meaningful summer showing from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos team, with eyes already turning towards the next potential arrival.
