Manchester United have officially confirmed that Michael Carrick will continue in his role as head coach beyond this season.
The 44-year-old has put pen to paper on a new contract that will see him retain the hot seat until 2028, ending months of speculation about the vacancy.
Carrick returned to Old Trafford in January following Ruben Amorim’s departure and spearheaded an immediate upsurge in form with victories over Manchester City and Arsenal in his first two outings.
Crucially, the former midfielder has overseen qualification for next season’s Champions League, collecting 11 wins from 16 fixtures to secure a third-place Premier League finish.
Manchester United entrust Michael Carrick ahead of a crucial summer
Although some continue to question Carrick’s suitability for such a monumental challenge, the former Middlesbrough chief is embracing the road ahead.
“From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United,” he stated on Friday morning.
“Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.
“Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.
“Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”
With one eye on Sunday’s trip to Brighton and another on the impending summer window, an ambitious Ineos sporting department is confident in its conclusion.
Having received ample scrutiny for their decision-making during both Amorim and Erik ten Hag’s tenure, officials remained committed to achieving Project 150.
“Michael has thoroughly earned the opportunity to continue leading our men’s team,” Jason Wilcox beamed.
“In the time he has been doing the role, we have seen positive results on the pitch, but more than that, an approach which aligns with the club’s values, traditions and history.
“Michael’s achievements in leading the club back to the Champions League should not be understated.
“He has forged a strong bond with the players and can be proud of the winning culture at Carrington and in the dressing room, which we are continuing to build.”
