Highly-rated Portuguese tactician Ruben Amorim has been confirmed as the new Manchester United head coach, succeeding Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford hot seat.
The 39-year-old will take the reins for the trip to Ipswich on November 24, arriving from Primeira Liga leaders sporting on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Amorim had a €10 million (£8.4m) release clause in his contract, but the Premier League giants agreed to pay an extra €1m to wave a 30-day notice and obtain him sooner.
As part of the negotiations, Leoes insisted the Lisbon man would remain in charge for the remaining three fixtures before the international break, allowing them to navigate a difficult transition with time on their side.
A Portuguese Legacy
Emotions are high within the walls of Estadio Jose Alvalade, with their beloved leader waving goodbye after four illustrious years in the dugout. Given the connection between staff and supporters, an amicable separation was a fundamental requirement for the Portuguese.
A profitable four-season spell returned two domestic league titles – ending a 19-year wait, two Taca da Liga victories and 2021 glory in the Supertaca Candido de Oliveira.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has championed his ‘best-in-class’ backroom team throughout his takeover – with chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth playing a pivotal role in concluding the Lisbon deal.
There is, of course, the small matter of a three-game spell leading up to his debut outing, with Ruud van Nistelrooy aiming to build upon his 5-2 Carabao Cup victory against Leicester.
The fan favourite took control of the first team on an interim basis following the departure of Ten Hag and looks forward to three Old Trafford meetings with Chelsea in the Premier League, PAOK in the Europa League and a final outing against the Foxes.
His long-term future remains unclear at the time of writing, but per reports in the Atheltic, the Dutchman will serve the club as long as he is required.
