Having beaten Real Madrid to the signing of Leny Yoro, Manchester United accomplished a rare feat in inflicting a transfer blow to the LaLiga kingpins.
Florentino Perez is the most successful president in the club’s history and is not accustomed to losing out on a target.
However, following a promising introduction, the French teenager endured a shattering metatarsal injury during the pre-season fixture with Arsenal.
Having stomached the agony of another injury setback, United supporters learned of a successful surgery and a rehabilitation period that will keep the player sidelined for three months.
The nature of the issue has had ramifications on the entire summer strategy, with Erik ten Hag again enduring a defensive dilemma.
With Raphael Varane waving goodbye to Old Trafford and Willy Kambwala departing for Villarreal, United have encountered another situation requiring investment.
But, to achieve the desired window, Sir Jim Ratcliffe must ensure his ideals align with the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules – forcing alterations with other targets.
Targeting a duo of experienced recruits
With less than a fortnight until the start of the new domestic campaign, Dan Ashworth is readying an offer to bolster his manager’s options.
Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have been the subject of a summer-long pursuit, with an initial joint offer refused by the Bundesliga side.
According to The Independent, the 20-time English champions are working hard to conclude a deal, with an improved bid expected ‘imminently’.
With Yoro absent until October and concerns over the fitness of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans, an onus on completion has accelerated.
Attempting to gain value for money
Another position requiring attention is the defensive midfield area.
Negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over the transfer of Manuel Ugarte appear to have halted due to the Ligue 1 side’s demands.
With the French kingpins demanding a fee close to €60 Million, United refuse to entertain conversations and will only return if the fee lowers.
But this has not deterred the Manchester outfit, with several players emerging as viable alternatives.
GIFN have stated that Ten Hag’s side is attempting to beat AC Milan to the signing of Youssouf Fofana, with the midfielder on the club’s radar for quite some time.
Additionally, the championship duo of Ben Sheaf and Sander Berge fit the desired profile with credible interest in both.
The Theatre of Red Exclusively revealed an ongoing assessment of Sheaf in June, with several sources resurfacing the possibility of a move yesterday evening.
Furthermore, The Athletic has reported contact between United and Burnley over the potential acquisition of Berge – with the club open to a sale.
The ball is now in PSG’s court, with this new-look Manchester hierarchy unwilling to comply with the demands of their European rivals.
