Manchester United have completed the signing of highly regarded 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson, subject to registration.
The former Tottenham starlet has earned a notable following among academy circles, routinely impressing in both domestic and European fixtures.
Thompson arrives in a deal worth £4 million, with the prospect of an additional £4m in performance-related add-ons, and is expected to contest for first-team opportunities.
We’re told that, despite featuring on the substitutes’ bench on three occasions, the winger grew frustrated by a lack of credible senior minutes last season, and believes strongly in his ability to perform in the Premier League.
A 15 per cent sell-on clause and a matching rights condition have been included in the deal, with the former related to individual accomplishments and appearances on the senior stage.
Thompson joined Spurs’ academy when he was 12, and delivered a series of standout displays in the UEFA Youth League last term, providing two assists and scoring seven in as many outings.
His playing style is best suited to an attacking left winger, combining pace, style, trickery, and maturity. Notably, he can also deputise on the right flank.
While there is much substance in his approach, consideration, and confidence in the final third, his output has been remarkable, with 34 goal contributions from 55 appearances across the under-18 to under-21 levels in North London.

Thompson becomes the fourth summer arrival following deals for Andrey Santos, Karl Darlow and Youri Tielemans, offering an unknown proposition similar to Ayden Heaven’s emergence on the senior scene.
A club statement read, “Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting young winger Tynan Thompson, subject to registration. The England youth international has joined from Tottenham Hotspur.
“The 18-year-old scored 13 goals and contributed six assists last season across Under-18s to Under-21s level, including seven goals in seven UEFA Youth League games.
“His performances earned him opportunities within Spurs’ first-team matchday squads. Everyone at United would like to welcome Tynan to the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future.”
Are you excited about this type of signing, and do you believe that the winger can play a part in Michael Carrick’s squad?
