Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United looks set to be confirmed shortly, with all parties close to an agreement.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who stated yesterday a deal was ‘imminent’ and set to be concluded by today (Wednesday, 26 June).
There are murmurings of an additional two-year extension, seeing the Dutchman tied to Old Trafford for the next three seasons.
Furthermore, Ruud van Nistlerooy is considering an offer to join his compatriot’s coaching staff – replacing Mitchell van der Gaag as Ten Hag’s assistant.
What we know today
When David Ornstein confirmed that United had opted to retain the services of their manager on 12 June, he stated that talks over a new deal would commence.
Ten Hag solidified this on Dutch television several days later while offering his services for a punditry role before England’s Euro 2024 tournament debut.
Romano has remained close to sources surrounding the negotiations and offered his latest information on his YouTube channel yesterday (25 June).
“Meetings are taking place between today and tomorrow to complete the new contract of Erik ten Hag, the Italian said.
“The agreement is almost done. The agreement is imminent, so Erik ten Hag is set to sign a new deal at Manchester United.
“Everything is almost ready – just discussing the final details – but Erik ten Hag will [obviously] stay as Manchester United manager.”
He added: “I can guarantee that between today and tomorrow – with new meetings – Man United and Erik ten Hag are set to complete the agreement over a new deal.”
A Ruud return is edging closer
A primary principle within the decision to extend his contract lies within an understanding that will see a reshuffle of backroom staff.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co desire a ‘best-in-class’ setup from top to bottom and appear to be cutting no corners.
Van Nistelrooy was the subject of a recent managerial pursuit from Burnley – while also attracting attention from Spain and Italy.
However, the allure of the Ineos project appears to be weighing supreme, with the legendary striker reportedly leaning towards a return to the club in a coaching capacity.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy is getting closer to signing as new Manchester United coaching staff member – as new assistant of Erik ten Hag,” Romano stated during his YouTube update.
“The big return of RVN at Manchester United is getting really concrete.”
Following an odd month of media speculation and preparations for the arrival of yet another manager, supporters can look forward to another campaign with stability in the hot seat.
