Having failed with their attempts to land Nico Williams, Barcelona have reportedly targeted a move for Marcus Rashford.
That’s according to Gol, with Albert Fernandez claiming the Manchester United winger is one of the alternative names desired by Hansi Flick.
The Barca boss craves a pacey left winger to contribute goals, viewing the Wythenshawe man as an ideal option.
Flick is a long-term admirer of the Englishman, with French kingpins Paris Saint-Germain also monitoring the situation.
It remains unclear whether Erik ten Hag would sanction a move for the forward despite the club’s precarious situation with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
“The reason Ruud is here is clear, he can help the strikers, but he is much more than this,” Ten Hag told the Athletic in July.
“With Rashford he can only prove himself.
“He is capable, he scores so many goals already at a relatively young age, he is capable of it. So I am confident, 100 per cent belief, he can do the same as few years ago.”
A defining season
The Manchester native must endure customary harassment for any underwhelming team display, with a barrage of online negativity finding its way daily.
Few others in European football receive such open ridicule and torment – with ample suggestion that the academy graduate would be open to a continental venture.
But, as Rashford approaches 27, he is entering the prime years of his career with much to offer.
Furthermore, he desires to remain in Manchester and help guide the club towards domestic and European competition.
Undeniably, 2023-24 was a season to forget – with a collection of erratic performances costing the attacker a place in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad.
But his talent is unquestionable, and a return of 40 goal contributions the previous season is far from forgotten by Ten Hag.
However, sources close to the Theatre of Red have confirmed that Barcelona chief Flick proposed Rashford’s name during a Sports Management meeting.
It remains unclear if the Catalans could even finance a deal for the United hitman – given his contractual status and the substantial transfer fee that would accommodate any offer.
