Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a reliable asset for Manchester United since he arrived in 2019.
But the Croydon-born defender could be set for a move away from Old Trafford – with Turkish giants Galatasaray amongst the clubs touted as a destination.
The reported fee is in the region of £15 million, which – to many – is substantially low for a player of his calibre and experience.
Considering the difficulties the club faces regarding the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, should a deal of this nature be contemplated?
Wan-Bissaka’s United career
The 26-year-old signed for a fee of £45 million. At the time, he became the sixth-most expensive defender of all time.
His debut campaign was memorable – leading the Premier League in tackles alongside Wilfried Ndidi (129).
In 2020, Jamie Carragher described him as the “best one-on-one defender for a full-back in the world”.
He has made 190 appearances for the 20-time English champions, scoring two goals – while playing an integral role in winning the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
The full-back has been a solid option throughout his time in Manchester, and the prospect of offloading him for an underwhelming fee will not be received well by the fanbase.
A wise head
The former Crystal Palace defender appears to have a strong head on his shoulders.
Throughout his time at the club, he has played under three managers and has never changed his work ethic – remaining quiet in the public eye.
Last summer, Aaron discussed his role in the squad and how his sole focus was regaining a spot in the starting eleven alongside the arrival of Erik ten Hag.
“You have that feeling, but for me, I always have that faith in myself to get myself out of situations like that”, as documented by the MEN.
“It was a hard time, and the only thing you can do during a hard time is keep working. I got my head down and then got the chance and was able to help the team.
“You can just sit there and complain about it and not care, or you can actually try, and I thought the best way was for me to try”
There appears to be evidence of an elite mentality, and it can go a long way – particularly in a younger dressing room with players like Rasmus Højlund, Amad Diallo, and Alejandro Garnacho.
Where do we go from here?
The arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS has suggested a revamp in how the club will dictate transfer philosophies.
United need to offload first-team players to facilitate the facelift the squad requires.
Wan-Bissaka is a usually reliable option that will supply a solid defensive shift.
But, despite his improvement in attacking transitions, his output and ability lack the cutting edge of Diogo Dalot.
Regardless of the destination, supporters will hope for a significant improvement in the fee, with hopes to restore the stature across the continent as a dominant force.
