Manchester United will be looking to score their first Premier League goal in four games against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
Following three consecutive victories in all competitions, supporters are beginning to see green shoots coming from Ruben Amorim’s tactical innovation. Furthermore, back-to-back clean sheets are a welcome sight for the troubled Manchester faithful.
The midweek success against FCSB ensured United avoided the Europa League play-off round, allowing the group to focus entirely on domestic matters.
A welcome three points would secure back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time in the 2024-25 campaign and potentially see the Reds leapfrog Brentford into the dizzying heights of eleventh position.
With a dull and rainy day expected across the skies of M16, Amorim will be desperate to see his side maintain the confidence building at the home of the 20-time English champions.
Team News
We saw much rotation in Bucharest as Manuel Ugarte, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof were handed a night off. Impressively, 16 of the 19 outfield players that made the trip were involved in some manner on the evening.
Despite positive news on the rehabilitation of Luke Shaw, the English international is not yet ready to return to first-team action, as he remains sidelined with Mason Mount and Jonny Evans.
“It can take a little bit more time,” Amorim told reporters.
“I think he needs to train more, to spend more time with his team-mates playing even, like normal, small-sided games, not just working alone.
“He stayed there [at Carrington] to make a different type of work, he’s going to get together with the team when we arrive and start from there. When I feel it is the right moment, we will start with some minutes in the games.”
Oliver Glasner had to prepare without the services of star man Eberechi Eze, with confirmation that the 26-year-old attacker is not available for the afternoon meeting.
Manchester United have not failed to score in four consecutive games against a side since last enduring the agony between 1981 and 1983 against Arsenal.
We must rewind to 2023 for the previous side to hit the net against the Londoners in the League, earning a 2-1 win thanks to Bruno Fernandes and the soon-to-depart Marcus Rashford in a February encounter.
Palace have edged the recent meetings, winning five of the last 11 league outings between the teams (drawn three, lost three). But United hold a strong record with victory in 61% of the total fixtures.
Amorim aims to achieve consecutive domestic wins for the first time in the North West in his 13th attempt. The last manager to take as long to record the feat was the great Tommy Docherty in 1972-73 after 14 fixtures.
