Manchester United continues to enjoy a backroom shakeup with the appointment of Andreas Georgson as first-team coach.
The former Arsenal tactician has vacated his managerial position at Norwegian side Lillestrom to join Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos revolution.
His appointment is yet another coup for United, with the 42-year-old in charge of Kanarifugla since January.
He will work alongside Steve McClaren and Darren Fletcher, offering a new dynamic for Erik ten Hag.
A best-in-class coaching department
Having enjoyed a variety of high-end positions at notable clubs, Georgson will specialise in set plays and individual development in the North West.
Speaking with Norwegian TV 2 earlier this year, he highlighted his desire for elite qualities throughout his side.
“We need a world-class process when it comes to not only set pieces but also restarts,” the former Brentford coach said.
“We need to be best in class at throw-ins and every type of set piece.
“It’s not something we measure in the amount of goals, as that depends on several factors.
“But we’re going to be best in class at preparation and execution.”
Outside of his coaching pedigree, the Swede has held multiple roles, from head of youth scouting to lead of academy Methodology.
He forms a quartet of arrivals with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake appointed first-team assistant managers, and Jelle ten Rouwelaar joining as a goalkeeping coach.
These are emphatic decisions at accelerated levels – with a best-in-class setup at the boardroom and coaching level having come to fruition in a matter of weeks.
It further emphasises the undeniable ambition of the minority owners to return the 20-time English champions to the head of the table.
