Contrary to the viewpoint of some, all is not as it may appear on paper when considering Manchester United, particularly the output of 22-year-old Benjamin Sesko.
The man on the moon is aware that paper will never refuse ink, and in a world of sensationalism and media-driven agendas, how better to guarantee traction than pressing on the red Manchester button.
Far be it from me to preach about the structure of a story. Still, when specific individuals opt to target a potentially vulnerable character in an attempt to gather attention, well, it’s all a bit jaded, isn’t it?
Nevertheless, focusing on a young striker who has scored in back-to-back outings is one of the more blatant public displays of ‘we don’t even care anymore’ that we have witnessed in recent years.
But the Old Trafford faithful are well accustomed to protecting their own, and this age-old adage of ‘us against the rest’ is as prevalent today as it was 30 years ago.
Benjamin Sesko is beginning to look at home at Manchester United
Following a busy summer window in the North West, Sesko missed out on any pre-season integration with his teammates, having not completed his move from RB Leipzig until August 9.
Naturally, this will present a challenge for any recruit at any top-tier side, let alone United, given the weight of expectations immediately placed on their shoulders.
All you need to do is look at the toxic situation with Rasmus Hojlund and how poorly an ill-equipped hierarchy managed his arrival.
Still, the Slovenian hitman debuted only eight days later with a 25-minute cameo against Arsenal, before earning two additional substitute appearances against Fulham and Burnley.
He earned a total of 80 minutes in these fixtures.
Since then, Sesko has overcome injury to become a mainstay in the starting XI, notching impressive finishes to complement what are noticeably improving centre-forward displays.
| Benjamin Sesko Premier League 2025-26 | 1040 minutes played / Percentile (P) |
| Goals | 4 |
| Expected Goals (xG) | 4.94 |
| Shots on target % | 50% (94th P) |
| Touches in the opposition box (Per 90) | 4.74 (81st P) |
| Duels won (Per 90) | 3.4 (89th P) |
| % of Aerial duels won (Per 90) | 52.4% (93rd P) |
| Passes blocked (Per 90) | 0.17 (99th P) |
| % of Dribblers tackled (Per 90) | 66.7% (93rd P) |
| Blocks (Per 90) | 0.78 (76th P) |
Although some believe the forward has been ineffective, we live in a world where the figures never lie, and if the above represents what some have published as the worst deal of the window, I am at a loss to understand why.
Mega-money acquisitions like those of Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal, or Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak at Liverpool, have failed to have the desired impact, struggling throughout multiple showings.
Yet, the trio have received an abundance of time, settling in, and understanding from many of the same media sources that would have you accept that Manchester United inherited a Bundesliga flop.
Unfortunately, in 2026, it’s easier to generate an agenda because that creates branches that lead to inevitable narratives.
Regardless, logical minds can appreciate the difficulties when integrating into a new team, lifestyle, culture, and region, despite what Tim Sherwood would have you believe.
Sesko’s confidence is growing weekly, and he is supplying a solid focal point in attack alongside a welcome predatory instinct in the six-yard box.
While some eagerly await an error to add to their wishlist, we look forward to further growth as he continues to find his feet in Manchester with a promising attack-minded trio in the final third.
How have you felt about Benjamin Sesko since he arrived in the North West, and are you anticipating a positive showing during a crucial run-in?
