Despite the contrasting standing of both sides, Manchester United are on the cusp of luring another generational talent from Arsenal, with Ayden Heaven set to move to the North West.
Following in the footsteps of former teammate Chido Obi-Martin, the 18-year-old central defender is keen to join the ranks of a sensational group in Manchester.
Per Fabrizio Romano, a deal was formally agreed upon after the Enfield-born youngster rejected improved terms from Arsenal and several approaches from continental names like Eintracht Frankfurt.
With final formalities taking place before the completion of his medical, Manchester officials are keen to finalise his official move as soon as possible.
Manchester and Ayden | A match made in Heaven
Make no mistake, Arsenal don’t want to lose their young star, but the Londoner is cautious of the lack of first-team opportunities under Mikel Arteta.
Like Obi-Martin, the Spanish tactician was eager to seal the player’s long-term future. But the allure of integration into Ruben Amorim’s first-team set-up is far more appealing, with the Portuguese famed for his trust in youth.
While the club’s immediate plans for Heaven are unclear, he is anticipated to join the Premier League 2 set-up while regularly interacting and training with the first team.
Chido has impressed since his move in October, amassing a notable goal catalogue and enjoying a starring role in the club’s FA Youth Cup campaign.
Both were sold on a willingness to allow ample opportunities for integration into the senior ranks at Old Trafford.
Such has been the commitment of the club to future-proof their options, a deal for Paraguayan youth international Diego Leon has also been secured.
Heaven made his competitive first-team appearance for the Gunners in a cameo against Preston in the Carabao Cup but has been a regular feature in first-team training.
He is a strong, pacey left-footed defender with an athletic build and a mature head on young shoulders.
In many ways, he possesses a style similar to one-time target Jarrad Branthwaite. However, his age allows Amorim time to cultivate his talents to accommodate his three-at-the-back mentality while saving a hefty transfer fee.
The English youth star was in attendance for United’s Europa League victory against Rangers, and his move signals another damaging blow for Arsenal and their youthful desires.
