Since sealing his highly publicised loan move to Barcelona in July 2025, Marcus Rashford has enjoyed a largely promising stint, with 23 goal contributions (10 goals, 13 assists) in 34 appearances.
The one-time Manchester United star appears at home in the sunnier climate and less physically demanding division, with long-term ambitions of remaining beyond this season.
Per the terms of the temporary arrangement, the La Liga giants can purchase Rashford for €35 million, a drop in the ocean for a 28-year-old attacker who continues to shine alongside some of the finest players in Europe.
Furthermore, the Wythenshawe native is willing to accept a reduced salary to stay in Spain and continue competing for minutes alongside the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
Make no mistake, while the memories of a 30-goal campaign in red offer the romanticism of a golden return, United are keen to offload a significant wage in excess of £300k per week.
Although this seems straightforward to the untrained eye, like me, Barca have instead opted to negotiate the terms of a permanent deal and appear determined to test Mancunian resolve.
Barcelona want to keep Rashford on their terms.
Despite some on social media presenting the above as news today, we shared exclusive information regarding the Catalans’ desires in December. To clarify, conversations began two months ago.
Working alongside Albert Fernandez from Gol Play, our sources confirmed that the 28-time La Liga champions are impressed with their summer recruit and hope to seal a deal in the region of €20 to €25 million.
Additionally, we can confirm that current-day suggestions regarding Michael Carrick’s eagerness to bring the player home are exaggerated.
Although some within Old Trafford feel a return has always been a possibility, the majority of the sporting department are keen to move on with a new and unified vision.
It goes without saying that Rashford’s legacy is held highly at Old Trafford, and his talent is recognised throughout the club. It would not be viewed as detrimental if he were to add to his 138 goals in the North West.
Still, senior officials are fully aware that Marcus would rather remain in Spain, and he is doing his utmost to ensure a Camp Nou stay for the foreseeable future.
Ineos is attempting to cultivate a best-in-class persona in the Premier League and is unwilling to be viewed as a soft touch in the market.
With the financial incentives of European qualification well documented, Carrick’s primary goal for the remainder of the campaign is to steer his side towards the Champions League.
An ambitious summer is then forecast, with midfield star Elliot Anderson the primary target for Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada.
Casemiro’s impending departure alleviates a large portion of the weekly expenditure at M16, as will the benefits of Rashford’s permanent move to Spain.
We’re advised that while recent attempts at a reduced package have supplied an unplanned irritation, confidence remains in concluding a deal between the two clubs.
Whether that happens today, tomorrow or next month is an unknown variable.
How do you feel about the latest financial ploy from Barcelona, and would you like to see Marcus Rashford return to Manchester United?
