Following the unforgettable North fixture of 2022 against Liverpool, the Manchester United legends are set to return for a clash against Scottish giants Celtic, with Danny Simpson speaking exclusively to the Theatre of Red.
As was the case two years ago, the goal of this memorable day is to raise much-needed funds for the Manchester United Foundation.
The highly-anticipated fixture will get underway on September 7, with the iconic figure of Bryan Robson leading a team of legendary Reds.
Amazingly, the previous installation raised over £1.3 million which went towards community projects and the work the foundation completes in schools across Greater Manchester and beyond.
“I don’t think it does get enough praise for what they do and what goes on day-to-day,” Danny told the Theatre of Red.
“I’ve been fortunate enough, as a local lad, to go to Old Trafford and spend days with kids coming in from all different schools.
“It’s about helping them and their futures.”

“We are very fortunate we can tell them our stories – give them our experiences,” the 2015-16 Premier League champion continued.
“Hopefully, it gives them a bit of confidence in school because it is tough now with everything that is going on in social media.
“When I am speaking to them in the workshops, I think it is massively important that these kids take a bit of confidence because it is a big road out there.
“Coming in, using the Foundation, I think it is massive – it can give them something to look forward to in their lives.”
When Legends collide
History runs deep within both of these famous clubs.
When considering a continental tradition, United are the first British side to partake in the European Cup.
On the other hand, Celtic were the first to win the competition with their iconic victory over Helenio Herrera’s Internazionale in 1967.
Additionally, both hold strong Irish roots, with immigration playing a key role in their foundations.
Amongst the many legendary figures set to feature against the hoops in September, Danny will line out alongside Paul Scholes, Dimitar Berbatov, Antonio Valencia, and Michael Carrick.
“My debut was getting a ball off Paul Scholes as a 19/20-year-old and crossing it for Wayne Rooney,” Simpson told Shaun Connolly.
“Just for me, to get the chance to play with Scholes, Berba and the likes – Listen, it’s Man United and Celtic – it speaks for itself – the history of the two clubs!
“If anyone can get down with the kids and the families – I know times are hard – but if they can come down and have a nice day – it’s all going to a good cause.”
The 2024 Legends fixture is fast approaching on Saturday, September 7, at 14:00 BST, with an unforgettable day in store for all.
