The Sir Jim Ratcliffe-infused overhaul of Manchester United continues with news that Hannibal Mejbri has completed his permanent move to Burnley.
Having concluded his medical on Monday (August 26), both parties were keen to navigate a swift deal ahead of Friday’s summer deadline.
The 21-year-old makes the switch for an initial fee of £5.4 million with an additional £4m in achievable bonuses.
Significantly, United have retained a buy-back option and a considerable sell-on clause, continuing the summer tradition of maximising each departure to its fullest.
An opportunity to excel
Having spent five years at Old Trafford since his move from Monaco in 2019, Mejbri made 13 senior appearances for the Reds.
The Tunisian international became the 239th academy graduate to make the jump with his highly-anticipated showing against Wolves at the end of the 2020-21 domestic calendar.
A former Denzil Haroun Reserve Player of the Year winner, Hannibal netted his sole first-team goal during a 3-1 defeat to Brighton.
But, the midfielder struggled to enhance his footprint in Erik ten Hag’s squad, making a loan switch to Birmingham City during the 2022 campaign and later with Spanish outfit Sevilla during the second half of last season.
He joins a Burnley side aiming for a swift return to the Premier League under new boss Scott Parker.
The Clarets have recovered from a disappointing top-flight season and collected two wins from three Championship outings.
Parker’s side is amongst the bookie’s favourites for promotion and will hope their new star can supply added tenacity to the heart of their midfield.
Everybody at Manchester United wishes the talented player the best with his career, with the possibility of a return in the future.
