For purveyors of the academy game, it remains common knowledge that Manchester United possesses a gifted crop of Under-18 players. But, while many are knocking on the door of first-team consideration, Jaydan Kamason is banging on it.
At 18, the youngster has been trailblazing a path through the underage ranks, and, thanks in large part to several free airings of last season’s FA Youth Cup fixtures, thousands more are now aware of his abilities.
Undeniably, his role in the quarter-final triumph against Arsenal was a standout in sealing the young Reds’ 3-2 win, from his commanding defensive display to his sensational second-half strike that brought the sides level.
Furthermore, the Theatre of Red can confirm that his commitment to personal development has earned significant admiration from the first-team coaching staff and high hopes for Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans.
“He’s in a real good space. He’s such a fantastic kid”
Born December 8, 2006, Kamason has shone throughout his early development, inevitably representing England at underage level and impressing in several outings.
For those unaware, he previously made Manchester United history by becoming the first player from the club’s Emerging Talent Programme to sign a professional deal in December 2023.
Having entered the programme while playing for Stockport Vikings, his growth through hard work and specialised training with dedicated coaching staff earned integration into the main academy structure.
Interestingly, sources close to Shaun Connolly confirm that a combination of his age and progression has caught the attention of Sierra Leone officials, with the talented wing-back eligible to represent Mohamed Kallon’s Leone Stars.
Adam Lawrence was ultimately responsible for overseeing this talented group of under-18 prospects and was one of Jaydan’s biggest admirers.
The former Millwall man quickly highlighted his performance and application following that memorable Youth Cup performance against Arsenal.
“Jaydan has been in real good form of late, so he’s in that position where he’s put in some real strong and consistent performances, as you’d expect from a second-year U18 player here,” Lawrence stated.
“He’s in a real good space. He’s such a fantastic kid, he’s got real good athleticism, and he likes to get forward on the outside. And listen, he’ll be watching that goal back for a while.”
Naturally, a defender’s primary role is to defend. However, an essential cog in this Portuguese attacking philosophy is the inclusion of marauding wing-backs in the final third phases.
Thankfully, Jaydan has displayed a scintillating brand of both en route to becoming a regular conversation point amongst the Old Trafford faithful.
Kamason made 31 appearances across a standout 2024-25 campaign, starring in the U18 Premier League, Youth Cup, UEFA Youth League and Premier League 2 and regularly epitomised a brand of eye-catching displays from a promising group.
His presence in the attacking third offered assured outlets through key passes and domineering carries towards eager teammates, ultimately returning an impressive eight goal contributions (two goals and six assists).
“He’s always been a full-back that has liked to get forward, and he can wear people down,” Lawrence continued. “He’s wiry, he’s very athletic and can get on top of people and really impact the game in the final third.
“We’re really excited about him and think that he has real big potential, but he’s a humble kid and he’ll know he needs to get better and that he’s got things to work on.”
The number of academy prospects who scale to the top of the Manchester ladder is minimal, with a tailored history of developing promising young men before anything else.
However, this full-back has every opportunity to reach the promised land, and his growth has led to widespread calls for first-team inclusion for the upcoming campaign.
