Erik ten Hag remains keen on bolstering his options ahead of the upcoming season, with plans underway for a meticulous transfer approach within Manchester United.
Fabrizio Romano has supplied an update on the nature of the pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite, with the player reportedly keen on a move to the 20-time English champions.
Following the departure of Raphael Varane, United are in the market for a defensive partner for Lisandro Martinez, with the ambipedal talent ticking the boxes for Jason Wilcox and Co.
Having seen an opening offer of £35 Million plus bonuses dismissed by Everton last week, David Ornstein has confirmed that Everton would like closer to double the transfer fee for consideration.
As we entertain a summer of unknown transfer philosophies under the guidance of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, supporters are beaming at the prospect of such early market activity.
Branthwaite wants Manchester United – Romano
“Branthwaite remains a player they appreciate – he is super keen on the move to Manchester United,” Romano stated on his latest episode of the ‘Here We Go’ podcast.
“He would like to join even if they are not playing Champions League football next season.
“But, again, the price will be crucial, so something fair or Manchester United will go for another target, and Everton at the moment believe they want at least £65-70million for Jarrad Branthwaite.
” So that’s why the deal, at the moment, is still not close.”
The ball is in the seller’s court
At just 21, the Wigton native impressed with an array of credible performances across his 41 appearances for The Toffees in 2023-24.
With one season of Premier League football and much to fine-tune in his game, the fee quoted would prove uninteresting to Ratcliffe and his ‘best-in-class’ backroom team.
Everton encountered their share of ordeal regarding the Profit and Sustainability rules, and the club is battling to avoid further point deductions – having endured separate cases during the season.
The desired figure appears to be out of United’s budget, and it remains unclear if a deal can be agreed. That said, will Everton roll the dice and risk the prospect of losing out on a much-needed cash injection?
