Erik ten Hag is in the market for defensive signings, with highly-publicised pursuits of Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Jarrad Branthwaite.
However, Manchester United have also registered interest in Bayer Leverkusen assets, with Jonathan Tah as a reported target.
Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg states the Premier League side has made inquiries regarding the player in recent days.
At 28, Tah represents a different profile from the club’s pursuits but one that offers credible experience and talent.
A player of undeniable quality
Tah has featured over 350 times for Die Werkself and on 29 occasions for Germany – with domestic powerhouse Bayern Munich keen to add the defender to their squad.
Plettenberg states United are aware Bayern and Leverkusen have not agreed on a transfer figure.
The Bundesliga champions are demanding a fee close to €40m for the German international.
The 6 ft 5 defender is a dominant fixture in the heart of Xabi Alonso’s defence, featuring 48 times across all competitions last campaign.
His physicality is noted and would be easily transferrable to the demands of England.
Furthermore, his aerial prowess ranks in the top nine percentile across Europe.
Ten Hag desires a ball-playing defender with confidence in transitions and distribution.
In Tah, he would acquire a 94.6% pass completion rate that ranks at the very top of the game.
It remains unclear if this was an attempt to encourage Bayern to accelerate negotiations over a move for De Ligt.
