Dan Ashworth and Christopher Vivell are less than a week into their new roles at Manchester United but are already attracting attention.
With David Ornstein confirming an acceleration in a deal for Joshua Zirkzee, speculation surfaced about interest in a generational French talent.
Desire Doue has delivered an array of impressive displays across a memorable Ligue 1 campaign, with ten goal contributions in 42 appearances.
With his star rising, the Old Trafford outfit has reportedly joined the race for his signature.
Destined for greatness
The Rennes attacker became the first player born in 2005 to score as a professional in 2022, alongside his inclusion in the Guardian’s best young talents list.
He has a versatile skillset and is comfortable operating anywhere across the forward line.
With that, Kostas Lianos from SunSport states United have joined Chelsea and Tottenham in pursuit of the player.
However, the Premier League trio will face competition from French giants Paris Saint Germain and German kingpins Bayern Munich.
The report continues by stating the French teen is a ‘top priority’ for the London clubs, with preliminary talks already held with Les Rouge et Noirs and the player’s camp.
What would Doue offer?
Firstly, while the Rennes Academy talent is a natural left-sided attacker, he is proficient on the right and through the middle.
His ball-carrying is pure joy, with 46 carries, 4.4 progressive carries, and 4.2 into the final third per 90 minutes.
Furthermore, his confidence is mesmeric at 19, with 5.8 take-ons attempted and 3.4 successful per outing.
His attack-first mentality fits ideally with the ethos of the Theatre of Dreams, supplying 6.7 progressive passes and 3.5 passes into the final third per 90′.
Additionally, Doue does not shy from his defensive responsibilities, ranking in the top 15 European percentile for tackles (1.9) and ball recoveries (5.2).
He has been with Rennes for 13 years, arriving at the illustrious underage setup at six.
While competition exists, his signature would present a real coup, with supporters understandably excited by the prospect.
Would you welcome the Frenchman to the North West?
