Following the emergence of the brilliant Kobbie Mainoo, the conversation has fixated on an ideal playing partner for the midfielder.
The Manchester United teenager has solidified himself as an integral player for club and country.
As we know, transfer speculation is as inevitable as rain in the North West.
However, emerging reports have today suggested the club has a focus on a second sensational Premier League talent in Adam Wharton.
Naturally, supporters are expectedly excited by the prospect.
A player ‘in United’s sights’
At 20, Wharton’s rise has been mesmeric.
Following his move to Crystal Palace from Blackburn in February, the Rovers academy graduate has thrilled those in attendance at Selhurst Park.
With 16 top-tier appearances acquired, caughtoffside claims the youngster is now ‘in United’s sights.’
His inclusion alongside Mainoo in Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad for Germany is a testament to his rapid growth and potential.
With Palace shelling out approximately £20 Million for his services less than six months ago, it is unclear if a deal would be plausible for the Londoners.
A skillset to complement the United midfield
Wharton is a technically savvy footballer and, like Kobbie, possesses an intelligence beyond his years.
The midfield player is confident in receiving the ball from deep – utilising his positional awareness to maximise his surroundings.
Having featured throughout two championship seasons with Blackburn, he is accustomed to the physical requirements and welcomes a battle.
His skill set is reminiscent of United’s Stockport phenomenon, and their understanding of the game would represent the perfect complement.
In an ideal world, this is a deal that United could complete and set a pair of generational players alongside each other to command Old Trafford for a decade or more.
With names like Manuel Ugarte seemingly approaching a move to Manchester, a deal for the Premier League star seems unlikely.
However, Ineos are an ambitious outfit and each passing day presents a new opportunity.
