The December fixture schedule is very much upon us as Manchester United make the trip to Arsenal for a second Premier League outing in three days.
Ruben Amorim’s men were unplayable at times during the 4-0 mauling of Everton, with three points lifting the Reds into the top half of the table.
Building on that, Bruno Fernandes and co will look to end a baron spell in North London, having not won a league meeting in the Gunners backyard since 2017.
But confidence is growing in Old Trafford, and a run of seven games without defeat has set the tone for an intriguing battle between the perennial rivals.
Team News
Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo are unavailable through suspension following yellow cards collected in Sunday’s fixture.
A tally of five bookings has incurred an unfortunate one-match layoff.
However, Leny Yoro is edging closer to a long-awaited inclusion in the matchday squad, with the former Lille man eager to get his season underway.
“We have one more training session to see it,” Amorim told media ahead of Wednesday’s fixture. “Maybe Leny Yoro is going to be in the squad.
“I felt he’s in a good moment now – his fitness is better, so I think he is going to be in the squad.
“We didn’t have too many trainings together. He’s training not alone but with a small group of players. He’s really fast, but he’s a modern defender, and that is good when you want to press high.
“I think he is a special talent but we have to be careful in this first moment.
“You have a lot of strikers, especially in this league, one against one. I think he can manage that. He’s very good with the ball so I’m really excited but we have to be careful. We have to manage the load and the minutes in the beginning but I’m really excited to see Leny Yoro playing.
“The rest, I have to see. Some players were tired so we have to assess tomorrow in training.”
Luke Shaw has suffered another unfortunate setback following a frustrating rehabilitation, but Harry Maguire returned as a substitute against Everton and is in line to feature.
Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof are likely to miss out once more.
Although the recent form has favoured Arsenal, with three successive victories for Mikel Arteta, United have never lost four in a row against Arsenal in league history.
But here’s an interesting one for you.
Arteta’s men have managed to win just two of their previous 17 evening fixtures against the Reds in the Premier League.
Additionally, United have won six of their last seven-midweek league outings and scored 23 goals in the process.
Nothing is guaranteed in football, but as we always say, momentum is a magical asset to have.
