Ligue 1 giants Olympique de Marseille are considering a deal to purchase Mason Greenwood from Manchester United.
That’s according to transfer mogul David Ornstein, who states talks are at early stages between the clubs, with financial discussions yet to start.
The forward is the subject of interest from several European clubs, having spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Spanish outfit Getafe.
The Athletic has previously reported that a trio of Italian giants are keen on the Englishman, with Lazio, Napoli and Juventus all tracking his progress.
A host of potential suitors
Greenwood has not featured in England since an 82-minute appearance against West Ham on January 22, 2022.
The Old Trafford outfit’s preference is for a permanent move, making the troubled attacker available for sale in August of last year.
With Roberto De Zerbi set to take the reigns with the 1992-93 European Cup-winning side, the prospect of linking up with the manager appeals to the Bradford native.
Azulones also remains keen on attracting the hitman back for a second spell, having earned their ‘Player of the Season’ award for his exploits during a 12th-placed La Liga finish.
The 22-year-old was the subject of an unsavoury off-the-field situation that ended with the Crown Prosecution Service discontinuing a case of attempted rape because of a withdrawal of key witnesses.
The 20-time English champions opted to sever ties, with a move away considered the best option for all parties.
Subsequently, the youth academy graduate has denied all allegations against him.
