Having received approval for the transfer of Chido Obi-Martin, Manchester United are edging closer to landing one of the hottest prospects in European football.
The 16-year-old striker accelerated through the Arsenal academy ranks, astonishingly netting ten goals against Liverpool during an underage encounter in November.
With the Premier League (PL) providing the necessary ratification yesterday, the teenager is set to seal his dream move, teasing supporters with social media images alongside Eric Cantona yesterday.
Although there has been no official communication from United thus far, the PL 5-step process is complete, and medical formalities have already been solidified and filed.
But why is there such noise about the teenager, and what exactly are the 20-time English champions acquiring with the forward?

Born in the Danish town of Glostrup in November 2007, Obi-Martin began his football journey with Kjobenhavns Boldklub (KB), where he immediately set about imposing his formidable stature within the group.
His progression was undeniable, earning a move to Arsenal at 14.
For some, acclimatising to an English powerhouse could overwhelm them at a young age. But Chido is different – he is determined to solidify himself as a household name in every sitting room across Europe.
Within months of arriving in North London, he earned promotion to the under-18 side at only 15. Unsurprisingly, he bagged a hat-trick in his first start against Southampton in September 2023.
One month later, he lined out for the club’s under-21 side and followed that with appearances for Mikel Arteta’s first-team training sessions in November.
While earning his stripes alongside his senior idols, Obi began trending globally following his ten-goal haul against Liverpool in a 14-3 demolition at under-16 level a week later.
Astonishingly, he hit seven against Norwich City in a 9-0 victory five months ago, bringing his tally to 24 goals in seven games for the under-18 side.
The Gunners, desperate to nail down his long-term future, offered various first-team incentives and promises of future cameos – with the Dane notching 32 goals in 24 youth appearances throughout the season.
But the allure of Manchester United is not easily ignored – despite what some may have you believe – and following confirmation of his departure from London on social media in July, senior officials swiftly began working to conclude his arrival in the North West.
Standing 6′ 2″ with an undeniable physical stature for his age, the hitman represents a dominant figure in the final third.
Thus far, his duels at underage level have been relatively straightforward – resulting in a catalogue of almost unthinkable individual metrics.
However, training footage from his time in Arteta’s first team saw the youngster engaging in battles with the like of Declan Rice, seemingly unfazed by the step-up in age and build.
As a frontman, his hold-up ability is evident – a factor that will have undoubtedly seduced Erik ten Hag. But his athleticism and technical ability go far beyond that of your quintessential ‘big man’ at the head of an attack.
Possessing pace, acceleration and advanced decision-making, this is no ordinary 16-year-old. We are witnessing a boy who could fulfil a role for a senior side tomorrow.
His predatory instinct is a trait that few are born with, and even fewer can learn, and his movement in the final third seems illogical for someone still learning his trade.
But here we are, and United officials are licking their lips at the prospect of the latest generational talent to call Manchester home.
As a football club, a desire to promote youth and embrace an ethos of disregarding age by way of ability is well known – a trait many feel has aided in the youngster’s decision.
United’s under-18 side possesses some of the most talented individuals in the game, with a golden crop completing a memorable treble in 2023-24.
While the 21s have earned back-to-back EFL Trophy victories against Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers – no mean feat for any group of aspiring professionals.
As a manager, Ten Hag is passionate about the progression of youth, with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Toby Collyer climbing the ranks in recent years.
While the future of the Theatre of Dreams remains uncertain, the values of entrusting teenagers stand front and centre. In Chido Obi-Martin, we may see the next great name leap into superstardom in the North West.
