Following a productive summer window that witnessed the arrival of a wave of Ineos acquisitions in the North West, Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on a trio of Bayern Munich stars.
Dan Ashworth assumed control of the Sporting Director role in July, commencing his duties to return the 20-time English Champions to the head of the table.
Under the ever-watching eye of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Erik ten Hag retained his position, with the new-look team receiving much scrutiny for the club’s worst Premier League start after seven fixtures.
But, as has been relayed as far back as June, the best-in-class project will not take shape overnight, with the hierarchy setting a two to three-year period for their desired results on and off the field.
With such, plans are underway for summer 2025, with Sky Germany revealing a peak into the billionaire’s ideals.
A trio of undeniable talent
Per an exclusive report from Florian Plettenberg and Luca Sixtus, “the Red Devils are watching Leon Goretzka, Leroy Sane and Alphonso Davies from FC Bayern.”
Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have already moved from the German giants in the summer, with ample speculation that Ashworth and co are keen to continue the trend.
“The English would like to sign the latter free of charge, but currently Real Madrid has the better cards with regard to a possible commitment of the left-back,” the report continues.
“Davies’ contract expires in the summer of 2025 – just like Sane’s.”
Sane spent four seasons on the blue side of Manchester, making 135 appearances and winning two Premier League trophies in the process.
At 28, it remains unclear if United would alter their squad strategy for the German. However, Davies is a more likely target five years his junior.
Goretzka is a well-respected midfield player with over 220 senior appearances for Die Bayern.
His stock appears to have diminished under Vincent Kompany, making a solitary Bundesliga appearance this campaign.
Again, it is hard to see this new-look development target a man who will be 30 at the time of pursuit, especially given the likely financial expectations of the veteran midfielder.
Should Ineos move forward with plans for the Bundesliga men, questions will inevitably surface about the ideology of acquiring individuals past their prime.
It sets a dangerous precedent – one that many would have expected had been left behind with the departure of Ed Woodward and Co.
