With Manchester United continuing to plot a transformative summer window, a dream move to Barcelona remains a possibility for Marcus Rashford.
The Wythenshawe man enjoyed a promising loan spell at Aston Villa during the second half of the recently concluded season, supplying 10 goal contributions (4 goals & 6 assists) and reminding the domestic audience of his capabilities.
Additionally, he carried his fine form onto the international stage for England, impressing Thomas Tuchel with a brace of notable performances against Albania and Latvia.
Although a frustrating hamstring injury cut his campaign short, a long-term admiration from the Barcelona duo of Hansi Flick and Deco was enhanced by what they view as a versatile attacker with his best years yet to come.
Despite the La Liga side turning their attention to national starlet Nico Williams to complement an already formidable attacking arsenal, Flick and Deco remain committed to bolstering their forward line with an option who can compete in multiple positions.
The memories of a 30-goal season during an unforgettable 2022-23 showing have convinced the Catalonia officials of Rashford’s suitability for their long-term project. Interestingly, although finances will prove problematic, there is a willingness to complete a summer deal.
Marcus Rashford to Barcelona | The finer details
The Theatre of Red has worked with Spanish colleagues for several months and identified multiple strategies within both circles.
As exclusively reported by Shaun Connolly and long-term colleague Albert Fernandez from Gol Play in May, Barcelona had initially set out on an ambitious journey to lure Rashford on a loan-to-buy package with coverage of his significant salary demands.
Naturally, the introduction of Williams was labelled as an “unmissable venture to acquire a €100 million player for significantly less”, inevitably moving the 22-year-old ahead of Rashford in the pecking order.
That said, the five-time Champions League winners crave an attacking dynasty to bolster the ranks of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Williams and the forever-threatening Robert Lewandowski. Rashford is considered a player who can feature on either wing or as a striker.
We can now reveal that Barcelona are moving towards offering a basic one-year loan agreement, with a standard fee and ‘significant coverage’ towards the player’s salary. Crucially, there is no immediate desire for an obligatory purchase.
While Manchester United officials desire a full sale to bolster their transfer plans and offload an extensive wage, the Spanish giants are eager to lure the 27-year-old on loan to challenge his capabilities in this new-look venture ahead of a potential permanent deal.
We are aware that Rashford’s team partnered with super-agent Pini Zahavi in early May to increase the possibility of brokering his dream move. For those unaware, the 82-year-old is close friends with Barca president Joan Laporta and also represents Flick and Lewandowski.
Furthermore, Arturo Canales has been acting as an intermediary between player and club, regularly speaking with Deco and the representatives of the one-time United star.
Canales retains a notable relationship with Barcelona and manages the interests of Hector Fort, Inaki Pena and Pablo Torre. Interestingly, the Theatre of Red can confirm he is also in dialogue with the YouTube star ‘xBuyer‘.
Speaking to the social media star while holidaying in Marbella, Rashford confirmed his desire to play with Spanish superstar Yamal, sparking debate about the context of the question and conversation. It is worth noting that Marcus has always been selective when choosing his interviews.
We are expecting advancements in a deal to take Williams to the La Liga champions in the coming week, and Spanish attention will then move towards Rashford. We are told the player is happy to lower his salary demands to facilitate all parties.
Whether this new-look Ineos hierarchy is willing to lower their demands is an entirely different story, and the Premier League side is moving forward with intentions of a permanent sale.
